Lesson 1 | A view to the whole: reading and outlining
Overview of course
The aim of this course is to help you grow in your study of Scripture by developing skills in careful reading, creating an outline, discerning the main point, and writing a summary and paraphrase. By the end of the course you will have a well-rounded set of Bible study strategies at your disposal.
While the title of the course is “Paraphrase,” notice that paraphrasing is but one piece of the whole. Still, you will discover that the ability to restate the text in your own words will serve as both a test and a demonstration of your understanding as a whole. Paraphrasing, therefore, stands as the culmination of the all the previous work aimed at gaining an accurate understanding of the text, so that you are then ready to wisely discern the implications of the text for your life.
